Accessibility
We want everyone to be able to fill out Form 4868 here. Accessibility is an ongoing effort.
Last updated: October 25, 2026
Our goal
We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at level AA, and we treat that as ongoing work, not a finished box.
What we've built in
- Every page and every step of the form works with a keyboard alone.
- Form fields have visible labels and plain-language help, and errors are listed at the top of each step with links to the field.
- Focus is always visible, and moves to the heading of each new step.
- The Show and Hide buttons next to Social Security number fields announce whether the number is visible.
- Text and buttons meet AA color contrast.
- Pages work at phone width and when zoomed to 200%.
- Images have text descriptions.
Known limits
The filled Form 4868 is the IRS's own PDF. Its structure comes from the IRS, so how well it reads in a screen reader depends on the IRS file. The form's answers are also shown on our review step as plain text.
Tell us what doesn't work
If something on the site is hard to use with your setup, tell us through the contact form. Include the page and what happened. We'll work on a fix.
