What we do
We help people and couples who need more time to file their federal return get Form 4868 right. Answer a few plain-English questions, download the IRS PDF already filled in, and get the exact mailing address for where you live. How it's free
The fill-and-print tool is free, with no account. We also tell you about the IRS's own free routes: paying online and marking the payment as an extension, and IRS Free File. If you'd rather e-file with guided help, you can use our partner, TaxExtension.com. If you choose to e-file, you'll go to our partner TaxExtension.com. We may receive compensation from that partner.
How we keep it accurate
Every rule, date and address comes from an IRS form, an IRS publication or IRS.gov, and we link the source on the page. Each guide shows when we last reviewed it. Every January we check for the new tax year's Form 4868 and recheck the mailing addresses, payment options and deadlines.
